She was imprisoned by the army who took power in August last year. Suu Kyi, 77, has been convicted of any charges brought against her, ranging from corruption to illegal possession of communications equipment, as well as ignoring COVID-19 limits.
On December 30th, she was sentenced to seven more years in prison on five corruption charges concerning employment, maintenance and purchase of a helicopter for a government minister, in which she allegedly caused “a state loss”.
Suu Kyi, sentenced to a total of 33 years in prison after 18 months of court processes that human rights groups have described as fraud, appeared in good health, a well-informed source for the case told AFP.
“All her cases have been concluded and there are no more charges against her, said the source, who asked to remain anonymous because he was not authorised to speak to the media.
Journalists are barred from attending Suu Kyi hearings and lawyers.
The former president of Myanmar, Win Myint, who was charged with Suu Kyi in the last trial, received the same sentence, the source said, adding that both would appeal.
Since the beginning of its trial, Suu Kyi has been seen only once and in photos broadcast by state media.
Basically, her messages were transmitted by defense lawyers. / REL/
