Memli Krasniqi: Prime Minister, President Challenged Kosovo Constitutional Order

Democratic Party of Kosovo Chairman Memli Krasniqi has said that attempting President Vjosa Osmani and Prime Minister Albin Kurti to hide behind the consensus to postpone the elections is another evidence of their inability to implement constitutional obligations and ensure conditions for keeping elections on territory [...]
Header The PDK has written on its Facebook page that the Government today acknowledged it is unable to ensure the success of the election process, which it triggered and asked for itself.
The opposition leader said that this handover of government to criminal gangs in the northern part of the Republic of Kosovo weakens the state, exacerbates the situation there and challenges constitutional order further.
Memli Krasniqi's full statement:
Today, we have responded positively to President Osmani's invitation for a consultative meeting, considering that holding elections in the northern part of the country, besides constitutional obligation, is also national interest.
Since the election declaration, all we have asked as the PDK from Government and responsible institutions has been ensuring security and conditions for free and democratic elections. But, unfortunately, today we realized that the government has failed to implement its mandate to create these conditions.
As long as the president for election proclamation fulfilled a constitutional obligation, it does not have such a mandate. The consensus required by political parties today is not legal duty.
Attempting the president and prime minister to hide behind this consensus is another evidence of their inability to implement constitutional obligations and ensure conditions and security for holding elections on the territory of the Republic of Kosovo.
Alone, like the PDK, despite our consistent stance, we cannot impose holding elections in the northern part of Kosovo, because the necessary instruments and state responsibility for this have Government and other institutions responsible.
But this Government today acknowledged that it is not capable of ensuring the success of the election process it caused and asked for itself. This handover of government to criminal gangs in the northern part of the Republic of Kosovo weakens the state, further exacerbates the situation there, and challenges constitutional order further.
Installation of barricades in the north today, at the time when the decision on non-election was being made, is evidence that this withdrawal of the Government from law enforcement and the constitution endangers even more the exercise of full sovereignty in the four northern municipalities. The government must be responsible for this setback and for the damage it has already done to the country with its thoughtless actions.
If we go back just a few days, we remember that it was Prime Minister Kurt who launched a chain of reckless actions and contrary to the interests of the country and the advice of our main allies, the United States, who eventually created an institutional and state crisis there. That crisis, which continued to deteriorate, also brought about elections for which the prime minister and Government now turned back.
In this challenging situation, The PDK requires all relevant state institutions to increase their attention and commitments regarding the northern part of Kosovo, restore normality and guarantee sovereignty in every corner of our state.
