Prime Minister Kurti has spoken of removing barricades in northern Kosovo, denying there has been no secret agreement, which many political and analysts and political personalities doubted.
During an interview given for Kosovo Press, Kurti said there have been meetings and talks with KFOR, EULEX and QUINT ambassador.
There was no secret agreement. There have been meetings with KFOR and there have been meetings with EULEX and there have been meetings with QUINT ambassadors, in particular with that of the US. Since we have repeatedly said that the patience of the citizens and the government is running out, so we give some more time and some more space to KFOR, but this cannot be endless. But also, from the meetings we've had we've started to notice their increased commitment towards leaving those barricades, so on Sunday we said it was a matter of days when these barricades were to be removed. If they do not leave KFOR then the Kosovo police would be forced to do so. She convinced me directly when I drew her that she has not only the will but also the capacity for efficient evacuation of those barricades”, he says.
However, he says it has been good that the barricades themselves were removed, rather than forced to do Kosovo Police. As it shows, even criminal groups have been behind barricades in the north.
“We have given more time to KFOR, since the information we received became clear that in northern Kosovo people who were either directly involved with or connected with Wagner mercenaries, then with the paramilitary formation of night wolves, and at the same time they used tactics that corresponded to 2014 in Ukraine... These barricades were not so many barricades against the government that for my obedience they were against olitical pluralism in the Serb community in Kosovo. There have been barricades against Nenad Rassic and Rada Trajkovovic, perhaps more than the barricades against Albin Kurti... The other reason is Kosovo's internal territorialisation, where some of Belgrade's territory controls it. This has been for us and will be unacceptable. Kosovo is located on the tracks of development, progress and democracy. This is unstoppable, but nervous in Belgrade, sometimes even in panic, sometimes produces barricades in the north. Which is much better off that they were thus removing themselves from those blocking themselves than to force Kosovo police to do”, Kurti adds.
