Kosovo Prime Minister Albin Kurti has written for War Veterans' Day today.
Through a Facebook post, he said veterans with guns in hand with courage in their hearts and wills in mind, lived in the Republic of Kosovo.
The day corresponds to December 30th 1991, when, for the first time, Serbian police surrounded Shaban Jashar's homes in Prekaz, in search of his son Adam, who had just returned from Albania after military training. That first Monday day 31 years, for Prekaz, began at 05:15 a.m., with calls from Serbian police megaphone: “Hand over Adam Jashar”. But Ademi, together with his brothers Riphat and Hamza, had long made up their minds to fight against Serbia unconditionally, to freedom or death. The battle of that day between Serbian police and the Jashari family, as well as their associates who came to their aid, marks the beginning of a new chapter, of a decade of armed resistance that would end in 1999 with the release of Kosovo”, he wrote.

As we constantly remember the fallen martyrs for the liberation of Kosovo, today we remember their living companions, the freedom fighters that live among us. Today is Veterans' Day, of all those who fought with weapons in hand, courage in heart and will in mind, for liberation and unity, to live with the Republic of Kosovo, with us.
This day coincided with December 30th 1991, when for the first time, Serbian police surrounded Shaban Jashar's homes in Prekaz, in search of his son Ademi, who had just returned from Albania after military exercises. That first Monday day 31 years, for Prekaz, began at 05:15 a.m., with calls from the Serbian police megaphone: “Hand over Adam Jashar”. But Ademi, together with his brothers Riphat and Hamza, had long made up their minds to fight against Serbia unconditionally, to freedom or death. The battle of that day between Serbian police and the Jashari family, as well as their associates who came to their aid, marks the beginning of a new chapter of a decade of armed resistance that would end in 1999 with Kosovo's release.
This police action of conquering and occupied Serbia in Prekaz, on December 30th 1991, resulted in 2 people injured, 14 families raided and 50 arrested, of which 27 were held all day. Among them was Shaban Jashar, who was held for 48 hours at the Mitrovica Security Centre, where he was beaten and burned, as seen in these photos fired by photoporter Ilaz Bylyqbashi. Serbia of that time did not know, nor could it have predicted that Saban Jashari and his sons would continue to be the soul and body of that armed movement called the Kosovo Liberation Army to the end, until the liberation of Kosovo.
Happy Day of the Veterans of all the steadfast freedom fighters.
