“The Kurti government most nontransparent since war”

The Vetevendosje movement had come to power with promises that would be “government with clean hands” and that will be the most transparent government, but after nearly two years of governance, according to connoisseurs is claiming to be the same government as past governments. Political recognisers are claiming that Kurti Government is not Government [...]

Political officials are claiming that the Kurti Government is not the Government that citizens have been expecting, adding to transparency of media and public, is the most non-transpart government since the war.

Kosovo Institute for Justice Director Ehat Miftaraj in an interview for EO said that if we compare the government with Kurti, no doubt the other government is cleaner, but, according to him, in reports published by this Institute, it turns out there are deputies and ministers who have charges of criminal acts.

So according to him, the VV's electoral promise that we're going to have <x0 governance with clean hands” is not that it's getting into practice.

“Institut has published the report Governance with clean hands, which has done an analysis regarding the number of MPs, ministers, mayors of municipalities of what is today the number of those who are with acts or criminal acts of corruption. Of course, this Government if we take the comparison with past governments is much cleaner in sense that we have a much smaller number of MPs, ministers, mayors who are accused of criminal acts, but that we certainly see in this government that today are condemned for criminal acts of corruption with sentences that amount to over 3 years in prison, we have ministers of municipalities who today, even though accused of the same government”.

So that VV's electoral promise that we'll have clean-handed governance is not that they're getting into practice, as international reports show, a government that promotes rule of law, good governance and also the government with ministers and MPs that are accused of criminal acts of corrupting certainly sets a poor example and lowers the confidence of the Serbian public, he said.

Miftaraj added that in terms of transparency of media, civil society and the public, the Kurti government is the most transparent government since the war, adding that from the promise of radical transparency, we have gone to a complete closure in information.

I can say that this Government is the least transparent since the end of the war, and in this area we have published the report where it turns out a large number of ministries don't have basic information on their websites where citizens can be informed. We also see access to public documents and their answers to nongovernmental organizations and that in this regard, this government and most ministries have huge defects. And I can tell by what have promised radical transparency we have gone to a total closure of this government in relation to the media, civil society or even the public”.

Former Deputy Prime Minister in the Haradinaj Government, Magbule Shkodra, said citizens have hoped that Kurti Government will be a government with clean hands, but according to her, is turning out to be the same as governments of the past.

“Now to talk about cleanliness, cleanliness is a very long, broad notion, and it's hard to say correctly, or it's not in that sense we've seen some reports of maybe misappropriations about whether or those tenders a source that were very much mentioned, then previously employed self-recognition, and now we've seen that happened in this government, it's hard to say, but I don't think we can talk about what citizens have expected, a clean government as they had hoped, but it's a government that could say like other governments.

I don't know how many numbers there are, but it's seeing there. Now we can say that there's a bigger job in the justice system that I haven't really noticed. The justice system still needs to be reformed and must also be supported by the Government. I know the powers are divided, but here I'm talking about financial support and not going to happen what happened, so earlier they talked to us, there's going to be reduced wages that shouldn't be done. You need to be given as much support as possible in order to do the job properly. As long as there are no distinctions from past”, she said.

As for transparency, Shkodra said there is a total closure from the Kurti Government.

I have a very serious remark here. Since the Vetevendosje movement was constantly in opposition, it held press conferences and informed us of everything and tried every issue to be present now we see a closure of Kurti government. This is to regret, my expectations and expectations in general of the public have been quite different, and on the other hand, people are not to blame for even being given room for speculation because we have no correct information from the government itself”.

And why is it that Prime Minister Kurti doesn't go on TV in Kosovo and interview us and inform us first hand so that we have first-hand information of what's going on in the north, what's the situation with the agreement, and not we expect to hear here an interview that journalists can hardly get anywhere in some random proposal, but he must be open. I think Kurti Government is unfortunately this surprise to me and I didn't expect it and not just me that's not transparent”.
