German Chancellor Olaf Scholz has opened the first liquefied natural gas terminal in the northern town of Wilhelmshaven on Saturday.
Its construction over the record term of less than 10 months shows our state's capacity for new beginnings”, he said at the inauguration ceremony.
This terminal is built to help replace Russian gas.
The terminal is expected to turn liquid natural gas into gas so that it can be used by the German power grid.
Four more such terminals are expected to be built in Germany next year.
According to the German Ministry of Economy, all these terminals together can provide a third of the gas Germany needs.
Scholz has made his decision to build terminals three days after Russia's war in Ukraine began.
As a result of sanctions imposed by the West Moscow for this war, Russia has reduced gas supplies to Europe, and has occasionally stopped them entirely.
The war in Ukraine has begun on February 24th.
Russian President Vladimir Putin calls the war “special military operation” to demilitarise Ukraine.
As a result of the war, thousands have died, and millions of others have been displaced from their homes. / REL/
