By agreeing to further intensify development co-operation, Kosovo and Germany will jointly address future main challenges. The priorities of developmental co-operation include sustainable economic development, training and employment, climate change and energy, fair transition and good governance.
Ambassador Rohde said that “sot both our countries are opening a new chapter of our steadfast partnership for Kosovo's sustainable economic development in line with the European Green Agreement and the Green Aegean for the Western Balkans. With that we support Kosovo on its path to the European Union. ”
The German-Kosovo co-operation agreement is aimed at promoting professional and educational skills, as well as creating new jobs as the basis for Kosovo's economic development. Special emphasis has also been on further investments in the Maker and Training Park in Prizren (ITP) as the main German-Kosovo development co-operation project. In terms of energy policies, the public and private sector, as well as civil society, will receive support in implementing the 2022-2031 National Energy Strategy and the National Energy and Climate Plan (NECP). Also, considerable funds will be shared through investments in the sewage infrastructure, aimed at protecting underground water resources and endangered rivers. This contributes significantly to improving living conditions for Kosovo citizens.
Further support for EU integration reform processes will be another priority of developmental co-operation, with particular attention in the areas of public finance, tax investigation, justice and implementation of environmental legislation.
Minister Murati thanked both delegations and stressed that “Germanism has been and continues to be a constant supporter of our development for more than 20 years. We have shared common values from the beginning and rely on Germany's support towards realising our aspirations to further develop Kosovo and help the country towards EU membership”.
Co-operation history:
Germany is one of the biggest bilateral donors in Kosovo. With new commitments undertaken, Germany and Kosovo continue 23 years of successful German-Kosovo development co-operation. Since the beginning of German-Kosovo development co-operation in 1999, the German government has earmarked 753.1m euros for the country's reconstruction and development. The main objective of Germany's development co-operation with Kosovo is to draw it closer to the European Union through influential projects in the areas of sustainable economic development, transition and energy efficiency, improved sewage and waste management infrastructure, and strengthened good governance. Furthermore, expanding solar energy capacities in the near future will be another priority goal.
