She called on Belgrade and Pristina to do everything to prevent further escalation.
The most important thing is for both sides to show a constructive attitude and find a solution as soon as possible that will ensure a normal life for all people in Kosovo, especially now when people are afraid”, Fajon said in an interview, answering the question of how she values the situation in the north and that removing the barricades has started today.
Fajon also stressed that implementation of the Brussels Agreement reached in 2013 between Belgrade and Pristina is mandatory for both sides and that the Association of Serbian Communities must be implemented.
“The implementation of agreed agreements, I have in mind that the 2013 Brussels Agreement is mandatory for both sides”, Fajon said.
Asked whether the EU has the political power to force Pristina to implement the deal regarding Association Fajon said that there is strength in Brussels and that the European Union's special representative for dialogue between Belgrade and Pristina, Miroslav Lajcak, is active in working to establish a principled dialogue.
There must be ambitions on the one hand and on the other. Dialogue is open. I know Lajcak is working and there is a silent dialogue that is important at this time. I hope we succeed, not alone. The EU, but the entire international community, has several others in the talks, I hope we will find solutions and there will be no escalation”, Fajon stressed.
She adds that it is important for him to have peace and for citizens to live well, and stresses that Slovenia and Serbia testify that they can build good, friendly relations based on common interests so that this relationship does not burden relations between Slovenia, Kosovo and Serbia
Responding to the question of whether under circumstances where citizens of Serbian nationalism are arrested in Kosovo, the negotiations can continue at all, Fajon estimates they must continue, because no agreements can be implemented otherwise.
The “here is not asked if it can be continued. It has to be continued because otherwise we will have no agreement that will be possible to implement. That means worsening relations between the two countries, so citizens. who live there. So I think the interest is on both sides and, of course, in the internationals, to find a solution that will create conditions for a normal life of”, Fajon concludes.
