With over half a million euros in average monthly losses operating Trepca between 2019 and 2021

The National Audition Office (ZKA) has published the auditing report “Financial and Operational Performance NP Trepca Sh.A” for the period 2019-2021. Results of this audit show “Trepca” The S.A. has failed to be efficient and effective in exploiting and processing mining resources, with the aim of exceeding operation with an average monthly loss of 620,307 euros and achieving instability, Perixopi writes. 

The report shows that “Trepca” has failed to create even the necessary preconditions for operation that would ensure efficient and profitable use of mining resources.

The results of auditing have highlighted weaknesses and inefficiency in the internal control system that would enable high productivity in extracting xehes, processing and further enrichment of it.

“The analyses of key financial performance indicators have resulted in negative indicators of the heavy financial situation that has been passed on to the company over the years. Old technology and infrastructure in Trepca S. A, as well as a lack of capital investments have affected low productivity. While large inflows of sterile metal during the xehic flotilla process were the result of outdated technology and lack of capital investments and the standardisation of the work process in flotilla”, the report noted.

Also, “The S.A. has failed to secure opigial management of human resources in the production process. This, as a result of lack of analysis and identification of staff commitment to production through business units, with the aim of raising productivity.

The announcement of unplanned business competitions, the overcoming of staff employed in business units compared to the public competition, as well as the engagement of workers with jobs and specific duties for regular positions without the announcement of public competition, are just some of the numerous irregularities of human resource management and which had resulted in additional spending during the period 2019-2021.

Regarding this audit, General Auditor Vlora Spanca has declared that “Trepca” The S.A. has failed to establish adequate domestic systems and controls that would support the achievement of positive financial and operational performance, with emphasis on the production process.

The audit report provided 22 recommendations, 3 for the Government of Kosovo and 19 for “U.S. in order to improve the production process in general and strengthen internal controls in the company.
