The Eurodeput is being questioned as her husband, Francesco Giorgi, was arrested on Friday morning. Qatar is accused of targeting officials “with an important political position and/or strategic” in Parliament. Police raids have been conducted in 16 homes and another 600,000 euros have been confiscated.
For months, Belgian investigators “They suspected that a Gulf country was influencing European Parliament's financial and political decisions by paying substantial sums of money or offering important gifts to third parties with a political position or a significant strategic position” inside this organ.
