However, EULEX said all barricades are illegal and that they must be removed immediately, while adding that the security situation in northern Kosovo is very disturbing and tense.
All barricades are illegal and they undermine freedom of movement, as well as the joy of other basic human rights. We want to review the message of High Representative [Joseph] Borrell that the barricades are not acceptable and should be removed immediately. However, as our Mission Chief mentioned in a recent interview, E ULEX has neither the mandate nor the ability to physically remove barricades”, EULEX's response to Klonkosova says.
On the other hand, they said that in northern Kosovo there are disturbing presences of individuals and armed groups, and, according to them, this is unacceptable.
EULEX as the second security responseer in Kosovo, further said it is now important that the situation be intensified immediately and the parties refrain from provocative actions.
This is primarily for the benefit of the local population, whose security is at risk because of the current” situation.
“EULEX remains vigilant and closely monitors all developments that could affect Kosovo's security, as well as the security of all communities in Kosovo through a substantial number of patrols, including foot patrols in northern Mitrovica and in Zvecan”, the EULEX response is said.
