A few days ago, there were several explosions in that section.
As a cause, the Kosovo Police have announced last night that they have begun increasing their presence in that part.
A member of the Kosovo Police and several journalists have been attacked last night.
That the situation is fragile is also acknowledged by the European Union for Rule of Law mission in Kosovo (EULEX).
In a response to Front Online, this mission has said they are concerned about violent attacks in the north.
The security situation in northern Kosovo is very fragile and there is a security vacuum there following the resignation of Kosovo Serb policemen. We are concerned about recent violent attacks on northern Kosovo and condemn them. EULEX remains alert to closely monitor all developments that could affect Kosovo's security, as well as the security of all communities in Kosovo”, said EULEX's response.
EULEX: We are patrolling 24 hours north
The European Union's Mission to End Law in Kosovo (EULEX) has told Front Online that since the situation in the north is not calm are patrolling 24 hours.
They have indicated that a police unit formed in November consisting of 24 Italian gendarmes and five Lithuaniansis have been deployed.
Apart from the EULEX-formed police unit, which consists of 105 police officers, the Mission temporarily established in November a police reserve unit consisting of 24 Italian gendarmes and five Lithuanians. Members of EULEX's formed police unit and the police unit formed reserve are conducting mobile detection patrols 24/7, working in shifts and they are monitoring the security situation in northern Kosovo, including North Mitrovica”, they are said to be responding.
From the mission, they have said they cannot replace the Kosovo Police, even as they have clearly increased patrols there.
“EULEX cannot replace Kosovo police, which is Kosovo's first security responsibility. The mission could only partially fill the security vacuum that was created in northern Kosovo following the resignation of Kosovo Serb police through the rise of its field presence”, it is said further in their response.
In line with the mechanism of Kosovo security response, Kosovo Police are the first security responsibility, EULEX is second and NATO/ KFOR is the third.
