The security situation, especially in northern Kosovo, is very tense and would be very bad if Serbs from the south were to leave the institutions, EULEX head Lars Gunnar Wigemark said in an interview for Kosova Online, where many issues were raised, especially in terms of security.
Our panel was attacked by approaching barricades near Rudari in northern Mitrovica, in these barricades there were Serb populations, but I can't say 100% for sure who dropped the bomb in terror. I thank you for statements by President Vuciq and others in which EULEX and KFOR are required not to be attacked and that we are here to fulfill our” mandate, he said.
According to Wigemark, EULEX, along with KFOR and the Kosovo Police, is carefully following developments.
“Sic you know, there are a series of barricades on the road, especially on the way from Mitrovica to Leposaviq, Jarinje and further to Serbia. There are also several other barricades. In general, I think that local populations -- whether Kosovo Serbs or Kosovo Albanians or other ethnic groups -- but of course we are talking about the dominant ethnic Serbs that are majority there -- are very concerned. People are scared. It has been more than a month since Serbs have left Kosovo institutions, there is a security vacuum”
