Russian President Vladimir Putin has removed US counterpart Joe Biden from his New Year's list of wishes.
“We are actually so deep in mutual animosity that there certainly will be no congratulations”, said Kremlin spokesman Dmitry Peskov.
According to the Russian news agency Interfax, Peskov did not say whether the other heads of state and governments Russia has named <x0 enemy “due to sanctions should wait in vain for New Year's wishes from Moscow.
According to Kremlin, the Russian president is expected to hold talks with Chinese counterpart Xi Jinping prior to the change of time.
“Actually, this meeting is preparing”, Peskov confirmed.
Xi Jinping and Putin met for the last time in September at the margins of the Shanghai Co-operation Organisation summit in Samarkanand, Uzbekistan.
Xi Jinping also hosted Putin's predecessor, Dmitry Medvedev, in Beijing last week. China has officially been expressed in favour of a diplomatic solution to the Ukrainian war, but has not condemned the invasion and joined Western sanctions against Russia.
Kremlin spokesman denied that a call with French President Emmanuel Macron was planned in the coming days.
