A former worker said the new Twitter chief, Elon Musk, has been staying at headquarters since he bought the firm.
He sent e-mail to all Twitter staff last month, saying that “would have to be extremely strong” to succeed.
The Construction Inspection Department in San Francisco has confirmed that they are investigating possible violations after a complaint.
In a deleted post now, Musk posted that he would work and sleep in the office.
The BBC has also been given photos of Twitter couches using as beds.
Another conference room has an alarm clock and a photograph placed on a bed.
“looks like a hotel room,” said a former worker. They went on to say that Moose sleeps regularly at Twitter headquarters in San Francisco.
Twitter did not immediately respond to a request for comments from the BBC.
