Czech diplomat denies Dacicin: Czechia dealing with Kosovo's EU membership

Czech Republic Deputy Foreign Affairs Minister Martin Kosatka has declared in Prague that there has been no real debate about opening the negotiating panel with Serbia during the chairmanship of the European Union's Czechia (BE), because the atmosphere was not appropriate. Kostaka has declared to European Western Balkans (EWB) that he sees three main obstacles in Serbia's case é lack of progress in the area of rule of law, dialogue between Kosovo and Serbia, and the very low degree of Serbian foreign policy approach with common EU foreign and security policy.
This problem was almost secondary with the first two a while ago. But with Russian aggression, it has become a principled issue and now the European Union will realistically insist on harmonising with PPJS”, Kostaka has said, broadcast Paparaci.
Asked whether the issue of foreign policy and security would be more important than law-rule reforms in the membership process, he stressed that it would be one of the key issues.
The fact is that the problem of harmonisation with the PPJS has risen dramatically in recent months, but without positive developments on the ground, rule of the law will certainly remain a major obstacle on Serbia's European path”, the Czech diplomat has said.
Speaking of EU enlargement, Kostaka has stressed that there is a common feeling in the European Union that Western Balkan countries should be given a chance, but that they should do their homework.
It is clear that the atmosphere has changed after Russian aggression. The EU wants to show that it really cares about the region. It's not about unspoiled work and the good results of a leader, but about the EU's overall will. This will is at hand”, Costaka said.
Even though Serbian Foreign Minister Ivica Dacic has stressed that during its Czech chairmanship, she will not handle Kosovo's EU membership bid, Kostaka claims that every leader is expected to do what is necessary.
“Considering the date Kosovo has decided to hand over the app (December 15th), we have not had time to do more than inform COROPER ambassadors of EU member states that Kosovo has submitted the app. During the upcoming Swedish chairmanship, consultations will begin with member states”, Kostaka said.
