Cyber Security: BEC says it has taken steps to secure the folders

The Central Bank of the Republic of Kosovo says the banking sector is safe and there is no need for panic. The CEC has said that despite various technological challenges, the CEC in co-operation with the Kosovo Banks Association and commercial banks has taken all measures so that customers will not be harmed by any illegal action.

“Based on its competencies, the CEC conducted full and focused examinations involving information technology field, including cyber security. Part of the examinations have also been found in the field of information technology, where various recommendations have been made that soften and reduce the possibility of misappropriation, recommending the establishment of appropriate internal controls in the function of prevention and cyberattacks. The wide range of products offered by banks also carries with it the risk of exposure to cyberattacks, but in any case when there is damage to customers of any nature, banks carry the cost of damage to customers. Furthermore, there have been cases when the CEC has been looking for and banks have damaged customers to any risk”, the CEC has announced.

Also, the CEC says it is closely co-operating with all security institutions to address any need in solving problems in this sector.

“The CEC has also committed much to resolving all consumer complaints and has one of its top priorities, protecting consumer rights”.

Thanks to the campaigns undertaken, citizens' awareness has also increased.

From 2018 to now, the number of citizens' complaints about misuse of bank folders is 139 (2018-12; 2019-36; 2020-29; 2021-18; 2022-44).

In recent years electronic transactions, also known as Internet purchases, have seen great growth, and the interest of bank customers in operating in this area is great.

By October of this year, more than 1 million electronic purchase cards have been issued, and there have been 38 thousand and 112 transactions worth 2 million and 431 thousand and 910 euros. /Periscopi/
