Washington sees no indication that Moscow is interested in the war outcome talks in Ukraine, US Secretary of State Antony Blinken has announced.
There is always value in diplomacy if the parties in question and in this case Russia are really interested in meaningful diplomacy.
And what we've seen, at least recently, is exactly the opposite, even when President Zelensky from Ukraine came to G-20 countries, and proposed how to move towards peace, what did Vladimir Putin do? He doubled and tripled everything he did, mobilizing more forces, annexing the territory in Ukraine.
Putin is already burning more civilian infrastructure, turning off the electricity. This is really what's happening right now”, Blinken said.
Blinken also said that the American administration is doing everything to exchange prisoners mainly Britney Greener and Paul Whelan to get back to their country as soon as possible.
In recent weeks, Russia's military focus has been on hitting Ukrainian infrastructure nationwide. Russia has intensified offensive in the town of Bakmut of the Donnetsk region and bombed the town of Kherson, which Ukrainian forces released last month.
On December 1st, President Joe Biden indicated he would be willing to talk to Putin if the Russian leader seriously wanted to end the invasion.
US intelligence has recently found that fighting in Ukraine is under way at a reduced pace and suggested that Ukrainian forces may have brighter prospects in the coming months.
This was the first declaration of this kind of American president since the launch of the Russian invasion of Ukraine.
