Biden authorises $275m for Ukraine

US President Joe Biden authorised a new $275m military assistance to Ukraine on Friday, offering new weapons against drones and air defences, the White House announced. New aid also includes ammunition for heavy artillery weapons, “HIMARS”, produced by the company [...]

New aid also includes ammunition for heavy artillery weapons, “HIMARS”, produced by Lockheed Martin, military vehicles “Humvee” and about 150 generators, the White House announced.

This is the 27th time used by the Presidential Authority for Ukraine, which allows the United States to transfer equipment and weapons from its fast reserves and without Congress' approval in response to an emergency.

National Security Council spokesman John Kirby told reporters at the White House that the equipment was “equipped” towards Ukraine.

But there is not much detail about two systems, those of “air defense” and “anti-aircraft systems, which seem to be new capacities for Ukraine.

The increase in Russia's missile attacks in Ukraine in part aims to reduce Kiev's anti-aircraft arsenal and achieve air dominance over the country, a senior Pentagon official said in November.

To counter these attacks, the United States has sent sophisticated antiaircraft systems “NA SAMS” in Ukraine, which has started to be used in recent weeks.

Washington reported earlier that it was sending four short-range air defence systems, “Avenger”, and intercepting missiles “HAWK”

The United States Allies have also sent air defence systems to Ukraine.

Since the beginning of the Russian attack on Ukraine on February 24th, which Moscow calls a <x0-computer special military operation”, the United States has sent there about $19.3 billion in military aid.
