Due to a lack of security, on 12 December, the education process at the “primary school --Aziz Sylejmani” in the Minors' district of northern Kosovo -- has been held in part.
So said Radio Free Europe, the principal of this school, Flamur Gacaferri.
“Today, the lesson is kept only in the lower cycle, from first to fifth, while with older students, from sixth to ninth, it has not been held. That's because parents have drawn grown children from the Kodra [Monators] in the southern part of Mitrovica”, he said.
At this school, the learning process in all parallels follows 17 Albanian students.
As for continuing learning Tuesday, Gacafer said they are in contact with “students' parents”.
In addition to this school, learning in other Albanian-run villages is taking place normally, South Mitrovica municipality deputy head Arian Tahiri said.
He said that due to the tensions in northern Mitrovica are in co-ordination with security institutions, even for the prosperity of the education process.
If recommended by the security organs that the lesson should be stopped we will make such a decision. Normally, citizens are more concerned about their safety, but the lesson is continuing”, he said.
Because of the current security situation, the lesson has been interrupted in Serbian elementary and high schools in four municipalities in northern Kosovo. They won't work until further notice.
So the director of primary school “told the REL Monday morning. Sveti Sava” in northern Mitrovica, Miodrag Jovanovic.
He did not give details that until students go to school, but only said such a decision was made Sunday evening.
Schools in Serb environments in northern Kosovo operate under Serbia's system.
Since December 6th, a series of armed incidents have been recorded in northern Kosovo, which have culminated in the settlement of barricades in the afternoon of December 10th.
Local Serbs began setting up barricades in the north in recognition of the arrest of a former Kosovo Police member.
Authorities in Kosovo said the former police officer, Dejan Pantic, allegedly organised “the terrorist attack” on the CEC offices in the north.
The international community has called for the barricades to be removed and has condemned attacks on Kosovo Police and the EU mission in Kosovo for rule of law, E ULEX. / REL/
