Democratic League of Kosovo Chairman Lumir Abdixhiku, along with party structures, have started on the day of the subject's 33rd anniversary by honouring the founder and former president of Kosovo, Ibrahim Rugova.
Abdixhiku said Rugova was the leader of Albanians in the most difficult period for Kosovo, while the Democratic League is following its path because, as he said, his project for a Kosovo in NATO and the European Union has yet to live.
“We are marking December 23rd 1989, when the country's best men and women, at the most difficult time in the country, lined up behind Rugova and thus built the largest Albanian political programme of the 20th century, movement for freedom, independence and democracy. The route of President Rugova, LDK, continues to remain the same, where the project, launched 33 years ago, is still not finished since Kosovo must become a member of NATO and the EU, and thus ending a dream launched 33 years ago, Abdixhiku said.
Today it is 33 years from the founding of the Democratic League of Kosovo. In September and October 1989, a group of writers and intellectuals, at the time of the greatest political and social concerns in Kosovo, agreed to establish a political party.
This group appointed the LDK chairmanship with president Dr. Ibrahim Rugova, secretary Yusuf Bujowi and members of the leadership: Dr. Fehmi Agan, Dr. Bujar Bukoshi, Dr. Ali Aliu, Nekibe Kelmendi, Mehmet Kraja, of many of the then renowned writers and intellectuals.
