The European Union has begun to lose patience with Kosovo and Serbia, media medium “Deutsche Welle” has written on Tuesday, in a report after the EU member foreign ministers reviewed tensions in northern Kosovo.
Josep Borrell, European Union for Foreign Policy and Security High Representative on Monday after meeting with the ministers, has said that “this situation should end”.
We are no longer willing to accept this”, Borrell said.
Since Central Election Commission officials tried to enter their facilities in four municipalities in northern Kosovo, to organise the first elections for this weekend (which was postponed), there have been attacks on police and CEC officials in the north. Shockers and even gun attacks have been tracking north these days. A police officer has been wounded as a result of the Zvecan shooting. A former Kosovo Serb police officer has been arrested for these attacks. Local Serbs in protest have blocked roads in the direction of the Brnjak Jarinje border checkpoints, which are temporarily closed. The United States and Britain have reacted after the roadblocks are blocked, calling for Serbia to remove barricades.
On Monday, Borrell warned that the EU is ready to send more personnel to the EULEX mission, a car which was attacked in the north.
The Council of Foreign Ministers urged both sides to give up provocations and end violence”, Borrell said.
The Constitutional Court in Pristina had sentenced accused Ahmeti to 17 years for pushing murder and illegal weapons in April 2019. The trial had escaped indictee Vlasaliu, who was extradited to Kosovo in 2021. But, following the complaint of defendant Ahmeti's defender at the Court of Appeals, the case was turned into retrial that same year.
The prosecution accused both of serious murder in co-ordination and illegal weapons.
The Pristina Constitutional Prosecutor's Act set up last year stated that Agron Vlasaliu, following the preliminary agreement with Arlind Ahmeti, has shot Nehar Sahiti by risking the lives of five others who suffered injuries.
The prosecution's claim was that on November 24, 2017, near the office of Francisco at the “Fehmi Agani” in the capital, after accused Ahmeti has exchanged words with the late man's brothers, Vlasaliu has opened the car window in which he was standing and fired two times by firearms that did not survive the wounds and five others were injured.
