Heavy snowfalls in some parts of Japan have caused 17 victims and injured more than 90 people, leaving hundreds of homes without electricity.
The huge snow fell, among other things, a power transmission tower on Japan's northernmost island, leaving about 20,000 homes without power on Christmas morning, though energy was restored to most areas later, according to the economy and industry ministry.
Dozens of train lines and flights were also suspended in northern Japan by Sunday, but most have resumed since then, according to the transport ministry.
