The number of Albanians applying as asylum seekers to Great Britain is growing rapidly this year.
According to official data on immigration by the British government, processed by “Monitor” in the January-September 2022 period have sought asylum in Britain 13,272 Albanian citizens.
In the third quarter of this year, the number of asylum seekers from Albania almost doubled in proportion to the first six months they had sought asylum of about 7 thousand Albanian citizens, writes Monitor Magazine, broadcast Klan Kosova.
In all 9 months of this year, Great Britain has registered 52,525 asylum seekers from around the world, 25% of whom were from Albania.
Several northern areas of Albania are being evacuated mostly of the Kukes district, which has strong links to migration to Britain.
More than half of the asylum seekers from Albania entered British territory with French gomones on trips more than eight hours often risking their lives. The migration wave was thus driven by the cheaper price of 500 pounds (300 pounds) in proportion to over 20,000 pounds worth of truck transportation.
British authorities consider small boat crossings dangerous and unnecessary for Albanians. Albania, according to them, is considered a safe country.
“generally in Albania or part of it there is no serious risk of persecution of persons living there”, the British government's information accompanying immigration statistics.
The data shows that the number of asylum seekers from Albania has increased more than four times in proportion to 2021, where only 3,578 Albanians sought asylum.
Any demand for asylum is considered on the basis of individual circumstances of persons and the possibility of granting protection will change at risk level.
British data shows that Albanians in general were less likely to take asylum than other nationalities. Albanians benefit 53% of the grant rate, compared to 76% of other nationalities.
Most Albanians crossing the canal in small boats are males. From 2018 to June 2022, 95% of Albanians who arrived in Britain with gomons were males.
A total of 21.3 thousand people in EU and Britain have sought asylum for 9 months
On the other hand, Eurostat data referring to the 9th month 2022 show that a total of 8,115 asylum applications in the EU were recorded by Albanian citizens, with an increase of 68% compared to the same period last year.
States with the highest applications remain France, with 46% of total applications for 8-month and Germany, with 12%. The Albanian desire is the highest in Europe, even compared to Ukraine at war.
Only through asylum have some 21.4 thousand people fled the country in 9 months, not counting on those who leave with studies, working contracts, family reunions, and so on.
That figure is about as much as asylum applications in the EU in 2019 (which included Britain's reporting) before the pandemic began. The country is quickly emptying as a city disappears each year.
