Several cities in Ukraine, including its capital, Kiev, have faced Russian missiles this morning, Ukrainian authorities say.
Presidential office adviser Olexey Arestovych wrote on Facebook that more than 100 rockets were coming, on several waves, and air attack alarms could be heard throughout the country.
The blasts were heard in Kiev, Zytomyr and Odessa, according to a Reuters correspondent and local media reports.
Power cuts were announced in the Odessa and Dnepropetrovsk regions, with the aim of minimising possible damage to energy infrastructure.
Kyiv Mayor Vitaly Klitschko said 40% of the city is without electricity, writes Sky News, this is Periscope.
“40% of the capital's consumers are without electricity following the missile attack. In terms of security measures used by power workers during an air alarm”.
“Currently, energy engineers are working on restoring electricity supply”, he said.
Earlier, it was reported that 90% of the western city of Lviv was without electricity.
