The policeman was shot dead during patrols near Bulgaria's border with Turkey.
Sarafov said that according to the first information, arrested persons are not citizens of Turkey. He said one was the resignation and the second person had helped in the incident.
Bulgarian authorities have described the case as unprecedented and announced they would take “severe measures” to fight illegal migration.
Bulgaria's Foreign Ministry Secretary Petar Todorov said the killed police officer was Border Police Sergeant Petar Bachrov.
Bulgaria said the police's murder occurred on November 7th, as the influx of persons trying to enter the European Union illegally has increased.
This is not the first incident that has resulted in the killing of border officials. In August of this year, two Bulgarian police officers were killed during an accident in Burgas while attending a bus with illegal immigrants.
According to data from the Bulgarian Interior Ministry, 12,740 illegal immigrants have been detained from entering Bulgaria from the beginning of the year until September. This figure represents an increase of over double compared to the number of migrants banned last year. / REL
