This unprecedented growth is due to the gradual increase in human life expectancy because of improvements in public health, nutrition, personal hygiene, and medicine. It is also the result of the high and constant birth levels in some countries”, the United Nations has announced.
As global population took 12 years to grow from 7 billion to 8 billion, it will take approximately 15 years to 2037 for it to reach 9 billion, a sign that the overall pace of global population growth is slowing.
“This historic moment is an occasion to celebrate diversity and advances considering humanity's shared responsibility for planet”, the announcement said.
