The defence of former Thaci's president at The Hague has raised the alarm for a <x0-professional behaviour” of the prosecution that is damaging them in the process of preparing the case. Thaci's lawyer, Gregory Keohe, has said the prosecution is telling some people he's interviewing that they are present in the quality of “suspects”.
He says this practice has been applied most frequently to former KLA members who have been called for interviews.
“Defense points out that the prosecution has adopted a practice of advising some people who interviewed them that they were present in the quality of suspects because [ Footnote] E REDAKUED].26 This practice has been applied most frequently to former Kosovo Liberation Army members”, Keohe has said in a parastory that has seen the news.net.
On the other hand, Keohe says such an approach by the Prosecutor is harmful to protection and has influenced a great psychological pressure on those called to interview.
He says defence investigations have been significantly hampered as these persons are already afraid to testify to the defence, as according to him, they are not sure what will happen to them.
This prosecutor's practice is harmful to defence and has resulted in considerable psychological pressure on those appointed as suspected “”. In particular, the result is that individuals designated as suspects by the Prosecutor's Office are unwilling to testify in the name of the defence, or even sometimes to speak to the Protection, as they are concerned by the uncertainty of their circumstances. This is a problem of fundamental justice for those appointed as suspects who are kept in a state of permanent uncertainty while the prosecution continues its investigations indefinitely. Furthermore, after the prosecution has taken a broad approach to those he interviewed as suspects, defence investigations have been significantly hampered”, the former president's lawyer says.
Otherwise, two years tomorrow are due to the arrest of KLA leaders.
They are facing war crimes charges, while so far they have been denied any request for freedom protection.
