President Voldymyr Zelensky announced last night that 41 countries were recovering in the southern region amid fierce “resistance” by Moscow forces, reports the “The Telegraph”.

Ukraine's Defence Minister Olexii Reznikov said it would take at least a week before the town of Kherson was released, as Russia still had 40,000 troops in the region and intelligence showed its forces remained in and around the regional capital, Klankosova broadcast.

Russia announced Wednesday that it would withdraw from the western coast of the Dnipro River, which includes Kherson, the only regional capital Moscow has occupied since the start of the invasion of Ukraine in February.

Provinca Kherson is one of four Russian President Vladimir Putin claimed he was annexed in late September.
