Nikita Chibrin, 27, who was part of the 64th Brigade, decided to leave Russia for Spain after leaving his unit in June and talking against the war.
The Siberian soldier said he had joined the unit on 24 February and that he had no idea he was going to fight in Ukraine, adding that he and his colleagues had been deceived by top commanders, Periscopi broadcasts.
During his time in Ukraine, the soldier who arrived in the Spanish capital this week said the morality among Russian soldiers was extremely low “ ” and that “each tried to find a way out of the” army.
Chibrin also claimed he had never fired during his time in Ukraine and has ruled out involvement in reported war crimes.
He is now seeking political asylum in Madrid and vowed that “would do everything he can to stop the war, including testimony in an international court.
