Rifat Latifi from Zurich: I thought I was ready to become a minister

Former Health Minister Rifat Latifi has continued activities in the quality of the chairman and founder of the Kosovo College of Surgeons. He has held a presentation at the University of Cyril, where he has talked about his experience as minister of health in the Government of Kosovo. As stated in the announcement, in his presentation “The Being Minister of [...]
As reported in the announcement, in his presentation “The Being Minister of Health; Medical diplomacy and health care transformation; Should we Doctors get involved in politics?
“November 2021 suddenly left a major academic and administrative job in one of the major US hospitals and universities to become minister at the Ministry of Health of the Republic of Kosovo, such as “Minister from the health sector”, not a political party. To be the minister of health, of every country, is the greatest honor and privilege, but to be the Minister of Health of the newest state in Europe, Kosovo, where I grew up, I grew up and then left the U.S. for a better life, is quite another”, Latifi was quoted as saying.
Latif, speaking of his responsibility for several months in the government, has said that this is the greatest responsibility anyone could have.
How is someone prepared to be minister of health? What tools are available to you, and what else do you need to help you transform a health system that is in a mess? Well, you've invested many decades of your life to get ready, you've created a clear vision and mission. So now all you need is the finances and commitment of all, while you need much support in fighting corruption embedded in every layer of health care system, Latifi has declared.
In this presentation, he has also spoken of his mandate as minister of health and how during that time he created a model of transforming health in Kosovo through medical diplomacy to ease health inequality.
“This is why we designed a process for creating twelve (12) clinical space centers (CCE), 22 advanced clinical sub-servizations (ACF) that will train (during 2022-2024) about 100 doctors and surgeons at international quality centres, most of which were provided through medical diplomacy. At the same time, medical diplomacy was being used to help build hospital infrastructure and medical equipment infrastructure”, the former minister has declared.
However, according to him, the biggest question is: “I was ready to become minister of health? What prepared me if there's anything for this job? Of course: I'm ready, I thought. Many things I did during my career prepared me for this. Well, at least, I was hoping. ”
A big question was still standing on me. Why would I get involved in politics? Haven't I had enough of the policies of the US academy and hospital. Now the Balkans. Kosovo. Would I be able to make a difference? Should I be involved as a surgeon in politics in Europe's newest country? The even bigger question: Who and why would do that in any way?!
