Kosovo Chief of Executive Albin Kurti has declined to accept the recommendations of the European Union and the United States of America to postpone the decision to reregister Serbian illegal license plates to those RKS for 10 months.
However, the decision is assessing the Director of the Peace and Rights Programme at Columbia University, David Phillips.
He says Kosovo is a sovereign state and that it has the right to set a specific deadline for car plates.
Kosovo is a sovereign state and has the right to set a deadline for car plates. Western officials are concerned that the approach and timing of Prime Minister Kurti could escalate the conflict. So I think there's got to be a middle way of time”, he said.
The policy recogniser for the Western Balkans says convinced that at the end of this process Kosovo will ensure recognition by Serbia, despite the Franco-German plan not to predict that.
In addition, Phillips says Kosovo will preserve its current borders, despite tensions in the country's north.
“Dialog will continue as a tool for easing conflict until a full and final agreement is reached where Serbia will recognise Kosovo as an independent and sovereign state within its current limits”, Philips said of 1v.info.
Days ago, Serbs decided to abandon Kosovo institutions because they disagreed to respect the government's decision on changing car plates. Moreover, they are also seeking the establishment of the Serb-run municipality Association.
