Foundation Executive Director “The challenges of the year-old” in Kosovo, Petrit Selimi, has announced last night that he will travel to the United States of America.

I expect my visit to Washington, D.C., next week. He will speak at the Leadership Forum, organised by Millennium Challenges”, Selimi wrote on Twitter yesterday.

Also yesterday, the debate began in the country following reports that several senior officials -- including Justice Minister Albulen Haxhiu -- have been cancelled because of the government's positions, contrary to US demands for delaying implementation of Serbia's decision on illegal plates issued for Kosovo regions.

Minister Haxhiu said that, together with the Americans, she has agreed that her visit will be postponed.

“Taking into account the current political situation in the country, together we considered that we should postpone the visit to a more appropriate date“, Minister Haxhiu wrote on Facebook yesterday.

Meanwhile, US Ambassador to Pristina Jeffrey Havenier has said yesterday at a meeting with a group of journalists that “is not the time” for ministers to travel.

“We are currently in a crisis, and it is our view that, we are extremely focused on this crisis, we believe that this government is also focused on this crisis, and we don't think it's probably the right time for ministers to be traveling to the United States for formal meetings in view of the crisis that needs to be addressed here. And that's what we're communicating to different government officials”, said Havener.
