President Vjosa Osmani will host representatives of political subjects at the meeting today to consult on the appointment of an extraordinary election date for mayors: Northern Mitrovica, Zvecan, Leposaviq and Zubin Potok. The presidency has refused to talk about meeting hours.
The four mayors in northern Kosovo have resigned from their positions as a continuation of the Serbian List's actions, which are rejecting the Kosovo Government's decision on license plates.
The move has paved the way for extraordinary elections in these municipalities since under a Constitutional Court decision, the mandate of each mayor ends with his resignation.
The elections, according to the Law, are announced no later than ten days after the break-up of municipal congregations, while they must be held earlier than 30 days and not later than 45 days after their dissolution.
The resignations, which took place on November 5th and 6th, have since been handed over to the Ministry of Management of Local Power (MAPL), of which the Office of President of the Republic of Kosovo has been announced.
After consulting with political parties, President Osmani is expected to announce the date of extraordinary elections for mayors of these four municipalities within legal terms.
