Opposition seeks private sector wages up, minimum 400 euros

The Democratic Party of Kosovo (PDK) and the Alliance for the Future of Kosovo (AAK) are demanding that the minimum wage in the country be 400 euros, not as the government proposed 264 euros. This, according to MPs of this first issue, is due to the recent crisis caused by price hikes.

They are even demanding that the salary law be processed in the Assembly as soon as possible, adding that the Law was not in the draft budget for 2023 either.

MP PDK's Ferat Shala for Online Economy has shown that inflation has already reached 14%, adding that the minimum wage must be 400 euros.

According to him, it is the obligation of institutions for private sector salaries to be proportional to problems that have engulfed the country and salaries in the public sector.

We officially have a figure that over 14 has reached an inflation rate. The minimum wage makes no sense according to government proposals and should be around 400 euros”.

“is an institutional and social and civic obligation that even private sector wages should be compatible with the problem and public sector salaries”.

According to him, the government has not drafted any plans to subsidise the private sector. MP Shala stressed that even with next year's draft budget, there is no substantial support for the private sector.

The government has not in any case drafted a plan in fiscal policies to subsidise the private sector legally. On the contrary, certain measures have been punishable and reggressive in terms of private sector”.

We don't see any perspective that with these economic policies, and especially with the draft budget for next year for the private sector to have any more substantial support. It's not pre-priced either the Law of Salaries or the budget project and it's a big fraud happening to us”.

While MP from the Alliance for the Future of Kosovo (AAK) Albana Bytyqi said they are urgently seeking approval of the Law of Salaries.

According to her, the private sector is constantly being ignored and that the government's response to helping this sector by enabling wage growth is necessary.

“We as the Alliance have demanded that the Law of Salaries come as soon as possible to the Assembly and be adopted and entered into force as much as possible, and we are demanding that the Law of Salaries be voted because, given the country's economic crisis, we are seeing the need to pass”.

The private sector is very important because we see that Government is providing no option for the private sector and this is an irreverent issue for the private sector. While the Kurti Government and the Minister of Finance are not reacting, I think the salaries in the private sector should be raised, but the Government should reflect on wages for the private sector”
