Through a media communiqué, by the OAK it is said, executive power should unconditionally support the justice system and that, in particular, create policies for this system to have financial independence.
And the communiqué says that lowering wages means going back until the risk of losing interested ones increases.
OAK's reaction regarding lowering of judges and prosecutors' salaries
23.11.2022, Pristina Oda of Kosovo Lawyers as an independent professional organisation of lawyers, an integral part of the justice system in Kosovo, with the main goal of advancing the rule of law in Kosovo, and supporting the legal reform process, expressing its concern for lowering the salaries of Judges and prosecutors according to the Kosovo Government's decision.
Executive power, I must unconditionally support the justice system indiscriminately, and especially create policies for this system to have financial independence.
It should be stressed that lowering salaries for Judges and Prosecutors means going back until the risk of falling interested ones to work at these positions is increasing, meaning that such consequences will fall at the expense of the citizen, because there may also be a decline in efficiency and the will of commitment at work.
It is the State's obligation to offer guarantees for establishing legal and financial conditions for a system of justice as efficient and in good terms as citizens' rights.
The Kosovo Lawyers' Oda called on the Government of the Republic of Kosovo to seriously address this issue, as the salary is each individual's fundamental right and which should be compatible with the responsibilities of each, so judges and prosecutors deserve to have dignified salaries.
