The Hwasong-17 rocket flew for 1 hour and 9 minutes and travelled 999.2 km to a peak height of 6,040.9km, the KCNA said.
Kim said the test came in response to threats from the United States and its allies, who are following what he called a hostile policy covering South Korea and Japan.
Kim pledged that “if the enemies continue to pose threats, the party and our government will react decisively to nuclear weapons with nuclear weapons and to the total confrontation with a thorough confrontation”.
It's the first time Kim showed up with his daughter in public, ending speculation about her existence.
After testing the rocket, Japan and South Korea held special air exercises with the United States.
