Kurti: Accommission on ethnic grounds conflicts with the Constitution

Kosovo Prime Minister Albin Kurti has reiterated his controversy over Serbia's continued demand and that of internationals for the establishment of the Serb majority municipalities' association. He has said that such association, which he called on ethnic grounds, promotes policy on ethnic grounds and that it is not [...]
Kurti made these statements in an interview for the Deutsche Welle media, while commemorating the Kosovo Constitutional Court's decision on the issue of establishing association, which she considered unconstitutional.
There's an opportunity for intercommunal co-operation, but not ethnic-based association. I don't oppose the Association of Municipals. Currently, Kosovo has an association of municipalities, 38 in total. But I cannot accept association on the basis of ethnic identity. Politics on ethnic bases is not possible. So we can create an entity-based association, because this is contrary to our Constitution. This fact is also confirmed by a Constitutional Court ruling in December 2016, he stated, among other things.
Prime Minister Kurti's open opposition comes at a time when the US and the EU are demanding that the first steps for the establishment of the Serb majority municipalities' association start immediately.
He has said Belgrade is rejecting the Franco-German proposal, and the situation in the north has described it as the form of the campaign of this refusal.
“This situation has been created because Belgrade rejects the Franco-German proposal, and this drama has been created to cover rejection. They have discussed this proposal at the Security Council meeting in Belgrade, and he has been unanimously rejected. So, all Security Council members in Serbia voted against the proposal. And the announcement was made by Serbia's foreign minister, who in the past was Milosevic's spokesman. He said he had rejected the Franco-German proposal and later invented this collective resignation from our institutions -- of Serbian policemen, judges and prosecutors” -- declared among other things the executive from the Peace Forum in Paris.
Kosovo leader has also expressed readiness for the meeting with Aleksandar Vuciq, but has said it depends on the mediating side.
