Will Kurt surrender in the face of American demands?

International pressure has been under way on Prime Minister Albin Kurti for several months, addressing several requirements for him to realise. Postponing the deadline for the plates, launching negotiations on establishing association are only the two main issues being asked for by the government's first. America is making the same demands often within one [...]

Since Kurt made a decision on the plates, the United States of America has expressed disappointment with him, as the chief of the Government of Kosovo does not comply with the request of Americans that the decision on its implementation be postponed for 10 months.

It was US Special Envoy for the Western Balkans Gabriel Escobar who asked Kurti and Osman to postpone the decision to implement the license agreement.

“It's no secret that we've requested a longer period of implementation and we've asked for another 10 months. I'd like to see this happen. This is not just US demand, it's all QUINT countries. And that's because we are the states that support Kosovo most. We believe it's important that when we make recommendations, people listen to them”, he said on Channel 10.

The request of Americans was repeated for the second time when the decision for the license plates was applied, which Kurt had added to some measures.

Ambassador to the United States of America to Kosovo Jeff Hovenier said the US condemns burning cars, but the request to Kurt did not forget.

“We refocus our request for a full extension of the implementation period so that the RKS signs can be deployed over 12 months, claiming that Kosovo has the right to implement this change”, Saveer wrote.

The next request coming from the American ambassador, who is not for the first time, is to establish the Association.

The same call for license plates from the United States came for the third time, but only the representative changed. Request this time came from DAS spokesman Ned Price.

He said they have asked the Kosovo government for a full extension of the deadline for the license plates, even making this request clear to authorities in Kosovo, both publicly and privately.

“We have been clear, public and private, that the international community, including the US, requires a complete delay in implementing these issues. We don't ask for a partial extension, we don't require action in phases. The international community has asked the Kosovo government for a complete delay in implementing [the license] decision. Again, these discussions are continuing, discussions with parties in the region, discussions with the European Union”, Price said.

No calls were missing from President Joe Biden's cabinet. His adviser, Derek Chollet, had a telephone conversation with Kurt where he asked him to extend the license schedule for the license plates.

“I talked with Kosovo Prime Minister Albin Kurti to discuss the importance of avoiding tensions and delaying the implementation of the decision for license plates, without seizures and fines. We also discussed our partnership and common goals for advancing Kosovo's European and Euro-Atlantic integration”, Chollet wrote.

Today, the American envoy for the Western Balkans Gabriel Escobariu had to repeat Kurt's same request.

Escobar commenting on the current situation in northern Kosovo cited implementation of tasks requiring both sides.

“We have been very clear and open what we expect from both sides. From the Kosovo side, we have called for a one-year period of implementation to conduct a public announcement campaign and prepare the affected community to be willing to change car plates. We are also calling on them to begin putting the issue of the Association of Serb majority municipalities in order day. This is a request. From our point of view and from our QUINT partners, that's a request and we'll insist. On the Serbian side, we think that any protest should be peaceful and the departure of Serbs from institutions is not useful. I call on the parties to be ready to meet these issues immediately”, Escobar told the Voice of America.

Kurt's response to all these requests was this way.

Kurt's response to Association: December 2015 Constitutional Court Act The Serbian Major Community Association has demonstrated in light of the truth, which is integible in our legal and constitutional system. She has not handled the 2013 deal, but the impact of the 2015 contents when the 2013 deal broke out in its concrete, in its details, and in its soul has practically hit the 2013 agreement. In other words, this Constitutional Court act has not stated that only the letter of Association is problematic, but it has found that 23 articles of the constitution are being violated with it and that each of the seven chapters of Association is not in accordance with the constitution, but has also hit the spirit of this association. There can be no association with the Kosovo Constitution on ethnic grounds.

Kurt's response to the license plates: The 10-month extension can't be a delay, it could be three weeks a month, we haven't been pushing because we're on our own, we've expressed our understanding of American distress. We want to avoid compromising in the matter of law enforcement, and we violate peace and security, and we have done so with the decision made. /Iliriana Jylan-Periscope
