Krasniqi: Association to Be Made Under Constitutional Decision, US Request for Pages to Be Respected

Leader of The PDK, which is standing on official visit to the US, has said the requirement for replacing plates from Serbian citizens in Kosovo is a legitimate decision. However, he has asked Kurti Government to consider the American requirement for delaying the decision.

“I believe that the main focus of the Government and Kosovo institutions should be that there is no escalation of the situation. If there is an international insistence, primarily American, to have an additional period in implementing the license issue, I believe this should be considered and taken very seriously”, Krasniqi said in an interview for the Voice of America.

Commenting on the situation in the country's north, Krasniqi said the government of Kosovo on the issue of license plates has brought dialogue to the technical level.

“The issue of license plates is Kosovo's legitimate decision. No one disputes this, not our American partners, not those in Europe, but the current demand of our friends, the main supporters of Kosovo, is to have a several-month extension, namely, 10 months in order to provide access to the dialogue process. It's a little hard to explain to our partners here in Washington DC that today we are in danger of a transition of the situation to the car license issue. Because even the people who have forwarded the Western Balkans and developments in Kosovo have been expecting us to be now focused on reaching a final agreement”, the head of the paper stressed. Regarding the issue of association, which Prime Minister Kurti continues to dispute based on constitutional principles, Krasniqi stresses that this should be discussed as part of the Kosovo-Serbia dialogue, with mutual recognition at the centre.

“The issue of association, taking into account only the act and assessment of the Constitutional Court of Kosovo, can be addressed in this context as part of a general and final agreement between Kosovo and Serbia”.

The Franco-German proposal, the opposition leader, considers it to be seriously addressed, considering the integration of international partners in the process.

From what we're hearing from French and German officials saying, it turns out it's a project or a European proposal supported, as Escobar emissar stated, 100 per cent from the United States of America. From what I've seen, it's problematic to be considered one. But I consider there has been a focus of attention and interest of all Kosovo partners to have a step forward in this process, and this has not happened for a long period.
