A spokesman from the group said Hashimi, an Iraqi, was killed in war with enemies of God”, without specifying the date of his death or circumstances.
Speaking in an audio message, the spokesman identified the group's new leader as Abu al-Hussein al-Husseini al-Quashi.
Kurashi refers to a tribe of the prophet Muhammad, from whom the leaders of I The SIS claim descent.
The previous leader was Abu Ibrahim al-Qurashi, who was killed earlier this year in a US attack on the province of Idlib in northern Syria.
His predecessor Abu Bakr al-Baghdadi was also killed in Idlib in October 2019.
