Justice recognisers say efforts to integrate north are going to waste

The removal of judges and prosecutors from the justice system risks the current efforts for northern integration to be wasted, attorneys and justice system recognitions, reports Online Economy.

In addition to this situation, many court hearings have failed while citizens of that section remain without service.

All this is being done because of the insistence of Kosovo institutions to finalise the plan to reregister Serbian-run vehicles with illegal plates in the RKS, while the Serbian side is demanding that this decision be postponed and the Association of Serb majority municipalities formed.

Lawyer Musa Damatti estimates that despite reaching agreements between the parties, this situation is unacceptable.

In an interview for Online Economy, Damati has demanded that agreements be implemented for the current situation in that part of the country.

The first “hearings to be held at the Constitutional Court of Mitrovica have all been postponed with the argument that a considerable portion of the judicial and prosecutorial staff have resigned. On the other hand, it is cruise to assume that such resignations are unprecedented and have created a chaotic situation in the Kosovo judicial system”.

Also, despite the current disputes that may exist between the parties, I think the agreements reached in Brussels on justice issues should be implemented, and such a chaotic situation created in Kosovo's judicial system should be unacceptable”, Damati says.

As he spoke of the situation in the north, Damatti says that the achievements in that part are being reversed because of politics. He also mentioned investments that were made in four northern municipalities.

Our defence services, as in all of Kosovo, are also offered to citizens in the north of the country, but it is important to note that they have failed and are postponed with the same reasoning that I posted at the top”.

“The issue of the country's northern integration has called for an extremely large capital, financial and political investment, and I think that improperly thought and reckless policies are pushing the country's north issue” towards failure, Damati says.

So does senior researcher at the Kosovo Democratic Institute (IKD), Gezim Shala. He for Online Economy has said that the integration of the judiciary into that part is a major achievement.

Shala says these clashes further delay the final agreement.

The withdrawal of them from the Parliament and other institutions has definitely broken down all of their achievements in the dialogue process for 10 years and also extremely difficult for Shala to reach a final agreement between the two states.

Shala says Kosovo institutions after many years with the Brussels agreement have managed to extend judicial power even in this part of the country. According to him, this situation turns Kosovo to zero, the EO reports.

“Beyond the discussions we have had at a given time, the integration of the judiciary in the north of the country is definitely a major achievement, because we remember those times in the north when there was no court and citizens had no service, justice has been paralyzed, and that is why it is considered to be a major achievement of judicial integration in the north of the country”.

“in this situation, if this is done and for certain daily policies of the same is withdrawn from the judiciary, defigurably all of this goes back to understanding the integration of the judiciary and that we practically return to zero and all of these successes that we've had so far”, Shala told EO
