The former British prime minister said different European countries had different views of the war in Ukraine, with Germany allegedly preferring a rapid loss of Ukraine before a long conflict.
In comments expected to spur debate among European leaders, Johnson for CNN Portuguese said: “This thing was a big friend... we could note the shift of combat tactical groups, but different states had totally different views”, he said, Pryscopic conveys.
The German view was that even if war were to take place, which would be disastrous, then it would be better for it to end quickly, and Ukraine to surrender”, he added.
Johnson said that all of these appear to be economic reasons” for this approach, but that he “couldn't support” these.
He also made comments about French President Emmanuel Macron, who has led the European effort to oust Vladimir Putin through diplomatic talks.
“Do not doubt that France was reluctant to warn until the last moment”, Johnson said.
The former prime minister, who is seen as a close ally of Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky, stressed that European Union nations later lined up behind Kiev. /Periscopi/
