Jasharaj: We still stand behind demands, in January deciding on union actions

The suspension of the strike for public sector workers, including teachers, is until January 2023, while unionists say that social dialogue with Government has not begun. The head of the strike Council, Nundman Jasharaj, said they stand behind their demands, while in January they will gather to decide on union actions if [...]
While, experts say this situation will destroy the education system.
The Union of Independent Unions of Kosovo had suspended the strike, launched on 25 August, in order to have dialogue with the Government to realise their demands until the start of the implementation of the Pagan Law. Meanwhile, the chairman of the Grevist Council, Nundman Jasharaj, has told Radio Kosovo that during this period, they have received no invitation and no commitment from the Government to meet and dialogue about unionists' demands.
Unfortunately no. Neither we as SBASK nor BSPK has had an invitation from the Government for meetings regarding our demands, which are already public. We hope that the remaining months, the government will use them for meetings and debates and to reach a solution to the Law of the Gentiles. But, so far nothing like this has happened, not a” meeting, Jasharaj said.
Jasharaj, stressed that the suspension of the strike is until January 2023, and if there is no dialogue and agreement on their demands by then, then union action can be taken.
“We will see together with the other unions what we will do next. I hope the government has not considered the suspension of the strike a victory. By January we are in expectation, we will consult with membership, then there are union bodies and the BSPK itself will debate the situation and decide on the requirements that the representative body of union membership brings to Kosovo. I can't even say there's going to be a strike, but I can't rule out the possibility, because if things go like this and if the Government continues with the equalification and lack of dialogue and commitment to resolving our demands, then in January everything could be possible”, he added.
Meanwhile, education issues connoisseur Jonuz Saliha told Radio Kosovo that there is still no sign that the government has invited trade unions for dialogue. He stressed that since the Law on Salaries has not been budgeted for the coming year, it means that it will not start to apply in 2023 and that this situation could lead to the destruction of the educational system.
I don't see any symptoms that will be solved. Anger will continue, ignoring teachers will continue, and this will contribute to the fact that the education system, which is also in a bad condition, will lead to disaster. I believe the Government should reflect and have this priority situation and solve it and not continue with these personal resentments, and destroy such a system of education”, Saliha said.
Radio Kosovo has sent questions to the Ministry of Education if they have held meetings with the Education Union to discuss their demands, but this minister has not returned.
