Two more people were injured in the shooting on a bus filled with students who returned from the field trip.
They were attacked while the bus entered the parking garage at the university campus.
According to local police, the alleged 22-year-old Christopher Darnell Jones Jr is in custody for murder and use of weapons.
So far there are no details about the motive that led that university student to use weapons during late Sunday hours.
The victims were identified as the second year's Devin Chandler student, D'Sean Perry student of the fourth year, and Lavel Davis student of the third year.
The university is considered among the most prestigious in the country and ranks third in public universities in the United States.
