That is how much money has been given by the state of Kosovo to protect those indicted in The Hague for this year alone, from January to today.
This includes the financial support of their family members for making visits.
“For the protection of the accused in The Hague, as well as the financial support of their families this year, January and today, has been spent 6,304,327.67$”, the MD's written response to Klaankosova.tv says.
Former Kosovo President Hashim Thaci, who was political director of the Kosovo Liberation Army, has been in The Hague since November 5th 2020.
Along with him as war crimes indictees are other former KLA superiors, Kadri Veselini, Jakup Krasniqi and Rexhep Selimi.
Apart from those charged are Salih Mustafa and Peter Shala in the quality of former KLA members.
Meanwhile 18 May this year, former heads of the KLA War Veterans Organisation Hysni Gucati and Nasim Haradinaj were sentenced to four and a half years in prison.
“On behalf of the people of Kosovo, the court was convicted of: obstructing official persons in carrying out official actions through serious threats, obstructing official persons in carrying out official tasks through participation in joint actions of a group, fearing according to criminal procedure, violating the secret of the procedure through unauthorized intelligence of classified information issued in official procedures, violating the secrecy of unauthorised intelligence procedure of the identity and personal data of protected witnesses”, Judge Charles Smith III said.
Gucati and Haradinaj were acquitted of prosecution of revenge.
