Former FIFA President Sepp Blutter says decision to give World Cup 2022 Qatar was a mistake. 86-year-old, he was president of FIFA when Qatar was granted the right to host the World, and this was established in 2010, writes BBCFollow Periscope.

Qatar has been criticised for its attitude towards same-sex relations, human rights history and the treatment of workers.

It's a very small place. Football and World Cup are too big for him,” he told the Swiss newspaper “Tags Anzeeger”.

Qatar's World Cup, the first to be organised in the Middle East in the 92-year history of the tournament and the first during winter in European countries, begins from 20 November to 18 December.

FIFA Executive Committee voted 14-8 for Qatar to organise the tournament before the United States, at the same time Russia was awarded the event in 2018.

Blutter says he votes for United States and blames then-U president EFA, Michel Platini for changing votes in Qatar's favor.

“was a bad choice and I was responsible for it as president at the time,” he said.

“Thanks to the four votes of Platini and his team [ U n EFA], the World Cup went to Qatar and not to the United States. This is the truth”, he said.

Butter also said FIFA had adjusted the criteria used to select host countries in 2012, after concerns arose over the treatment of workers there that built World Cup stadiums in Qatar.

We remember that Blutter spent 17 years as FIFA president, but was forced to resign in 2015 on charges that he illegally organised a $2 million Swiss franc transfer (2.19m) to Platini, who was also forced to resign from his position in FIFA./Periscopi/
