Almost all three million available tickets have been sold for this huge competition, writes Periscope.

Qatar is the smallest host country in World Cup history, with a population of about three million living in an area about half the size of Wales.

It will be a compact event with eight stadiums separated by approximately one hour by car and the maximum of 43 miles [43 km], 110 subways and 4 thousand buses to transport its fans.

It will be a different World Cup in many ways, so what can fans expect?

How many fans will travel to Qatar?

About 3 to 4 thousand English fans are expected to travel to Qatar for the group phase, with numbers rising if the Gareth Southgate team reaches the preliminary stage.

About 2 to 3 thousand fans will fly to visit Wales, which has been playing in the first World Cup since 1958.

Ashley Brown, head of the football fan association, says England's fans are not travelling to the same number as previous tours due to the costs involved, while World Cup time outside the school's regular summer holidays will affect many households.

For many Qatari, it doesn't sound like an exciting place to go, it's not a typical vacation destination, the lack of access to alcohol, the cost to get there, the cost when you're there is not pushing people. The cost of living plays absolutely a role in this”, he said.

The organiser of the FIFA tour has published a list of top-10 ticket sales according to customer countries, with Qatar at the helm and England at fourth place./Periscopi/
