The Turkish leader has also accused the United States and other Western countries of provoking Moscow.
State media TRT and other Turkish media reported that Erdogan said on November 12th that the <x0th> West -- and especially the US -- are attacking Russia indefinitely”, without having more of it.
“Of course, Russia is demonstrating a huge resistance to the face of all this”, Erdogan was quoted as telling reporters during flight from Uzbekistan.
Western countries have armed Kiev and offered it additional assistance. They have also imposed strict sanctions on Moscow since the Kremlin began its unprotested invasion of Ukraine in late February.
We're working on how to create a peace corridor, like a grain corridor. We think the best way for this is the way from dialogue to peace”, Erdogan said, adding that Ukraine's position will be important.
Turkey, a NATO member state, has brokered talks between Ukrainian and Russian delegations earlier this year and has also attempted to balance its criticism of the invasion and rejection of sanctions.
Ankara and the United Nations brokered an agreement to resume Ukrainian grain exports from Black Sea portraits. Erdogan said that “would be wrong” for Turkey to propose a deadline for extending this agreement after the November 19th deadline, but added that the grain deal would be in effect “the longer possible”.
There has been no public effort to resume peace talks between Ukraine and Russia since such initiatives in Istanbul during the first weeks of the war no progress was achieved.
During the week, Ukraine has denied that it is under pressure from Western states to negotiate with Russia, saying it insists talks will be held if Russia abandons all occupied territories.
Russia said on November 11th it is committed to achieving its goals in what it calls “special military operation” in Ukraine, adding that these goals can be achieved through peace talks, but added that Kiev's position makes it impossible for peace talks to be held
