Challenged by inflation, Germans buy discount products

The dramatic price increase is causing people in Germany to change their spending habits, a survey conducted by the market research company eyelsenIQı reported. Over half of consumers, about 52 percent, buy only products they really need based on [...] surveying.
Over half of consumers, about 52 percent, buy only products they really need based on surveys conducted with more than 10,000 citizens.
Some 44 percent said that they are succeeding without products “that are fun or luxury articles”, 31 percent were trying to reduce restaurant visits and eat at home instead.
About 30 percent of respondents agreed with the statement: “I buy less”.
People are also using many other savings strategies. They compare prices more, pay more attention to special offerings, go to cheaper products, such as products with personal labels, or buy discount products more frequently”, said dealt expert IQ, Lothar Stalin.
Many consumers are also changing their consumer habits, for example replacing butter with margarine and mineral water with tap water.
According to the survey, only about 10 percent of the population are not at all concerned about inflation, mainly those with high incomes. /rel
